BLACKWOOD, MALAYSIAN

Diospyros spp.

Diospyros spp. of the family Ebenaceae

The name Diospyros ebonasea is sometimes seen as a botanical name for this wood, but that name is not supported by The Plant List, even as an "unaccepted" name, so I am leary of it. All of the professional sample vendors that I am aware of just use the "Diospyros spp." designation for this wood.

my samples:
NOTE: these pics were all taken in very bright incandescent lighting ("soft white" at 2700K)
colors will vary under other lighting conditions

web pics:

all of the pics in this section of this page are of wood that was listed as "malaysian blackwood", Since all of these are from the BogusColorVendor I am confident that the orange color in the sapwood is bogus (massively oversaturated, as they usually do).
