LIME

Tilia spp.

Tilia spp. of the family Malvaceae. Use of the name "lime" is closely intertwined with use of the name "basswood" and depending on the species, they may refer to the same species. There are some 20 species of the genus Tilia that use (pretty much interchangeably) the names basswood, linden, and lime.

At some point I will include further information on these species and perhaps further clarification, and I will probably merge this page with basswood.

9" tall (and 3" wide) English lime vase by Steve Earis, who tells me he turned it so thin that you can see daylight through the side, and who is particularly pleased with it as it was his first vase. Both levels of enlargement are available, so you can see the grain quite clearly. My thanks to Steve for this and many other contributions to the site.
