DALBERGIA BROWNII

Dalbergia brownii

Dalbergia brownii of the family Fabaceae. This is most commonly listed as Dalbergia brownei (that is, with an "ei" on the end instead of "ii") but I am told by Wood Scientist Scotty Drye that the standard botanical terminology is to use "ii" in such cases and not "ei". A Google search shows the following approximate number of hits, which supports my contention that "ei" is by far the most widely used name, whether it is correct or not.

Dalbergia brownei (21,000)
Dalbergia brownii (8,000)
Dalbergia browni (2,000)
Dalbergia browneii (800)

The common name among botanists is Browne's Indian Rosewood but I use the name dalbergia brownii because I have seen it advertised (under any name) by only one vendor and that is what they call it. Also known as coin vine.

I have no sample of this wood and have never seen a piece, so cannot judge the colors

web pics: these are all from the BogusColorVendor, so I have no faith in the redness of the color in these pics. It could be correct, but if it is, that would be a rare correctness in the pics from this vendor.
