Dinizia excelsa of the family Leguminosae (subfamily Caesalpinioideae; recently moved to Mimosoideae), the legume or pea family
In Brazil the name “angelim” can be applied to several coarse woods in the family Leguminosae and “vermelho” means “red”. Usually angelim vermelho will refer to Dinizia excelsa, a heavy and durable wood with a very distinct smell which strongly discourages indoor use.
